Monument to Alexander Pushkin was unveiled at Pushkinskaya Street 7 August 1884
was erected a monument on the initiative of the St. Petersburg city public administration and by the decision of the City Duma on March 17, 1882
Architect -.. Nicholas Benois, sculptor – Alexander Opekushin M.-author of the famous monument to Pushkin on Tverskoy Boulevard in Moscow. By the way, to create a monument Opekushin used one of the many competitive options that he created for the Moscow Monument. Interestingly, it was initially planned to erect a monument in another place – in the Alexander Garden in front of the main entrance to the Admiralty. The monument stands on a pedestal of black granite; the sides of the pedestal are carved in golden letters excerpts from “The Bronze Horseman” and a quote from the “Monument”. The poet, with his arms crossed, looking focused and sad. The bronze sculpture has turned a little, a little more than a man’s height, and so it seems very “home” commensurate with the viewer.
