Palace of the Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna Romanov, sister of Emperor Nicholas II (Baryatinsky mansion) has a nice and very interesting history. For many years this house was one of the centers of cultural life in St. Petersburg, and its walls have seen the most illustrious educators fatherland. It definitely worth to come for a tour! The first building was built on the site in the second half of the XVIII century, then – repeatedly rebuilt and expanded. In 1837, the house passed into the possession of the family Baryatinsky, noble family, leading into the pedigree from the Rurik. The house was rebuilt for Alexander Bariatinskii by architect Yegor diameters. In 1858 the Herald-Julius Bosse created a new design that greatly expanded the house. In 1896 the house was donated by Emperor Nicholas II’s sister to the wedding – with the Duke of Oldenburg. For new owners – Grand Duchess Olga and George, Duke of Oldenburg – house was again renovated, this time Stephen Krichinsky. He also created the bas-relief on the front of the house with the coat of arms of Oldenburg. After 1917, much of the interior of the mansion was lost. communal apartments are located in the building. In one of them in 1922 settled Samuil Marshak. Since 1989, in the mansion were successful reconstruction. Currently occupies an iconic building Chamber of Commerce of St. Petersburg.
