Founded back in 1724 by Peter I, it was created for the development of potential rossiskih scientists. Originally Academy located in this Kunstkammer then were ready only six rooms and halls of the first floor. In the second half of the 18th century by architect Quarenghi separate building was built but a number of previous habitat. The first decade of its activity was quite modest, as the level of education was low, it was necessary to invite experts from abroad, but gradually were founded the department of anatomy, geography, astronomy, physics and mineralogy. Also, the university was founded at the Academy, we recruited an expedition to study the distant regions of our country, held public lectures for everyone.
